How to use this calculator
Find a percentage of a number. Enter amounts in the units shown, select the applicable options, and click Calculate. Use Reset to restore the starting values.
Calculation formula
Result = number × percentage / 100.
Assumptions and accuracy
Check the selected mode, units, date endpoints and result notes. Currency selection controls display and rounding, not exchange rates. Calendar calculations do not include holidays or local time-of-day.

Percentage increase and decrease calculator
Calculate percentage change from an original value, a percentage of a number, or one value as a share of another. Zero starting values need separate treatment.
Open this calculationUnderstanding this calculation
Work out percentages without mixing a percent of a number with a percentage change. Use the matching mode for a proportion, a change from a baseline or a part-to-whole relationship.
Worked examples
Find 15 percent of 200
Use the explicitly stated inputs; the example link fills them in.
- 200 × 15 / 100 = 30.
15% of 200 is 30.
Try these inputsIncrease from 80 to 100
Use the explicitly stated inputs; the example link fills them in.
- The increase is 20.
- 20 / 80 × 100 = 25%.
The relative increase is 25%.
Try these inputsCommon questions
Is a change from 10% to 15% a five percent increase?
It is a five-percentage-point change and a 50% relative increase. Keep the difference between rates separate from a relative percentage change.
Can percentage change start at zero?
No finite relative percentage is defined from a zero baseline. Use the absolute change instead.
Scope and assumptions
A zero denominator has no defined percentage. Changes from negative baselines use the absolute baseline as denominator; percentage points are a different measure.

Calculation methods and formulas
Percent of a Number
Find a percentage of a number.
Result = number × percentage / 100.
Percentage Change
Find the percentage increase or decrease from an original value.
Change = (new − original) / |original| × 100%.
What Percent?
Express one number as a percentage of another.
Percentage = part / whole × 100%.
