How to use this calculator
Compare net fund growth to the same return without fees. Enter amounts in the units shown, select the applicable options, and click Calculate. Use Reset to restore the starting values.
Calculation formula
Front-end charges reduce each contribution; recurring expenses reduce the effective annual return.
Assumptions and accuracy
Review timing, rates, fees and result notes when comparing scenarios. Future returns and rates are assumptions rather than guaranteed outcomes. Monetary display follows the currency’s precision; intermediate calculations retain additional digits.
Choose what to calculate
Mutual fund calculator with fees
Project a fund balance after entered contributions, expenses and sales charges. The modeled back-end charge is applied to the final balance.
Open this calculationUnderstanding this calculation
Project a fund balance while distinguishing front-end loads, recurring expense assumptions and back-end charges. Compare the modeled net redemption value with the charge-free illustration.
Worked examples
How a front-end load reduces invested money
Illustrative inputs are specified in the steps below; the example link loads the complete settings. Unmentioned settings use the linked defaults.
- A 5% front-end charge on 1,000 is 50, leaving 950 invested. With no return, deposits, recurring expenses or exit load, redemption value remains 950.
Net redemption value: 950 USD.
Try these inputsCommon questions
How does a front-end load affect contributions?
It reduces the portion of each contribution invested under this model, so the deducted portion does not participate in later growth.
Are fund expense ratios the same as an exit fee?
No. Recurring expenses affect ongoing growth; a back-end charge affects modeled redemption. Avoid treating them as interchangeable.
Scope and assumptions
Returns are hypothetical. Actual expense charging, distributions, tax and share-class exit schedules can differ.
