How to use this calculator
Find the sale price, original price, amount saved, or discount rate. Enter amounts in the units shown, select the applicable options, and click Calculate. Use Reset to restore the starting values.
Calculation formula
Sale price = original price × (1 − discount rate).
Assumptions and accuracy
Review timing, rates, fees and result notes when comparing scenarios. Future returns and rates are assumptions rather than guaranteed outcomes. Monetary display follows the currency’s precision; intermediate calculations retain additional digits.

Original price calculator before discount
Recover an original price from a sale price and discount, or solve a percentage or dollar reduction. Confirm the selected mode matches the known amounts.
Open this calculationUnderstanding this calculation
Calculate a sale price, savings, original price or discount rate. A discount percentage is applied to the original price rather than to the reduced price.
Worked examples
Take 20 percent off a price of 100
Illustrative inputs are specified in the steps below; the example link loads the complete settings. Unmentioned settings use the linked defaults.
- Savings are 100 × 20% = 20. Subtract from the original 100 to get a sale price of 80.
Sale price: 80 USD.
Try these inputsCommon questions
How do I find the original price from a discounted price?
Divide the sale price by one minus the discount rate as a decimal, provided the rate is below 100%.
Are two 20% discounts equivalent to 40% off?
No. Sequential 20% reductions leave 0.8 × 0.8 = 64% of the original, equivalent to 36% off.
Scope and assumptions
The simple calculation excludes sales tax, shipping and restrictions on stacking promotions unless handled separately.
